Dr.C.W.W.Kannangara
Dr.C.W.W.Kannangara was born on the 13 October ,1884 in Ambalangoda.He studied at Weslyan English High School and Richmond college in Gall.
From his early childhood ,Kannangara was an exceptional child.He was a fine sportsman.He played Cricket and soccer.Captained of the Richmond cricket team.And won colours in football .
He was a bright student.He was not a "bookworm"He became a star student of Gall Richmond college and was named the school head prefect .
He served as a teacher first and passed the law examination .Started practising law in Gall,in 1910.
Entered politics in 1919.He was the first Minister of Education in Sri Lanka.
He introduced free education for all.Started Central Schools.Introduced free education from Kindergarten to Univercity Education .
Married Edith Weerasinghe in 1922.
He served 16 years period as the Minister of education .There was a remarkable progress in the field.English was made a compulsory subject ane Religious education provided to all.
He passed away 23 rd of September 1969.Lovingly called,Father of free Education .
